Nepal Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal “Prachanda’s“ wife Sita Dahal passed away today (july 12th) i.e wednesday’s morning. She was 69-years-old.
Prachanda and wife Sita had three daughters and one son. Their eldest daughter Gyanu Dahal and son Prakash Dahal have already passed away. Sita is survived by her husband and two daughters, Renu and Ganga. Renu Dahal is currently serving as Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City.
It was reported that she was suffering from Parkinson’s disease, has been reported to have passed away this morning at 8:33 local time while undergoing treatment in Kathmandu.
It was reported that Sita was suffering from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy along with Parkinsonism, Diabetes Mellitus-II and Hypertension for a long time, was taken to the hospital on Wednesday morning following complications in her health condition.She was admitted to Norvic Hospital after her health condition deteriorated on Wednesday morning and died of cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment.
Sita had undergone treatment in India in 2021. She had also received treatment at the Baltimore-based John Hopkins Hospital in the United States of America in 2020 and prior to that she was also taken to Singapore for treatment in June 2018. In October, last year, Dahal was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after her health deteriorated. She was taken to various hospitals in India as well as in Nepal for further treatment but her condition did not improve, reported ANI.
According to Prime Minister Dahal’s secretariat, Sita Dahal’s body will be kept at the party central office Parisdanda, Koteshwar from 11 am to 1 pm to pay the final tributes. According to the secretariat, the funeral rites will be held at Pashupati Aryaghat at 2 pm at Pashupatinath Temple today.
Tributes poured in from various quarters on Wednesday on the death of Sita Dahal as leaders of political parties and diplomats paid their tributes to the wife of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and CPN (Maoist Centre) leader.
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his condolences on twitter and wrote “श्रीमती सीता दाहालको दुःखद निधन भएको खबरले मर्माहत भएको छु । @cmprachanda प्रति हार्दिक समवेदना प्रकट गर्दै दिवंगत आत्मालाई चिरशान्ति मिलोस् भनी प्रार्थना गर्दछु । ॐ शान्ति।“
President Paudel telephoned Prime Minister Dahal on Wednesday morning to express his grief and also expressed his deep condolences, wishing that God would give strength to the bereaved family including the Prime Minister.
President Ramchandra Paudel has said that he is deeply saddened by the news of the death of Prime Minister Dahal’s wife Sita Dahal.
Likewise, leader of the main opposition party and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli reached Norvic Hospital in Thapathali to express his condolences to the family along with Prime Minister Dahal.
“I am deeply saddened by the news of the death of Sita Dahal, the life partner of honourable Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Paying heartfelt tributes to the late Sita Dahal, I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family including Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal,” wrote KP Oli.
Heads of various diplomatic missions also expressed their condolences on the passing of Sita Dahal.
“I offer my deep condolences on the demise of Madam Sita Dahal, wife of Rt Hon Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal. My thoughts are with the bereaved family at this sad and difficult time,” wrote Volk.
Felicity Volk, the Australian envoy to Nepal, also took to Twitter to express her condolences.
US Ambassador to Nepal Dean R Thompson, in a Twitter post, wrote: “On behalf of the U.S. Mission to Nepal, I want to express my deep condolences to Prime Minister Dahal and his family for the passing of his wife, Sita Dahal. Our thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time.”
Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song reached the party office of the CPN (Maoist Centre) to pay the last tribute to the late Sita Dahal. Her body was kept at the party office in Koteshwar to pay the last tribute to her.
Similarly, the Rastriya Swatantra Party, issuing a statement, expressed grief over the demise of Sita Dahal.
The nation stands united in grief as they bid farewell to Sita Dahal, a woman who played a significant role in the life of Nepal’s prime minister.
